Do you need a base built?

Base Guidelines
All timber buildings need a base, but with an array of options out there, its important to have an understanding before you choose.
Why do I need a base?
The most fundamental component of a shed or a garden building is the foundation on which it sits. The timbers in any garden structure rely on the ground being solid, flat, and level. A base is a separate structure from a garden building and must be constructed to be all of the things required to accommodate a garden building; solid, flat, and level. Natural ground such as grass or soil becomes unsteady and ‘boggy’ which is unsuitable to accommodate a solid structure.
Could I build my base?
Stoneleigh would recommend you find a professional competent contractor who is able to create a suitable base for your building, if the base is not flat, solid or level it will compromise the structure. Although based come with different price points, its important to understand that trying to save some money could in fact cost you a lot more down the line. If in doubt contact us and we can advise you. We do also offer a timber base installation service separate to your order for your peace of mind.
Where should I install my base?
Before you choose the location for your garden building it is important to take into consideration the information below. You won’t want to move the building once installed. You do need space around your structure, this is important during the installation as our team will need to get around the building safely, so please don’t install to close to any fences or walls. We would not recommend you install your base close to any tree of plants that would overhang the building once installed. Overhanging branches that impact the felt can introduce issues over time.
You should also take into consideration the direction of natural light and whether you will want to install electricity or water points.
